For those who need a grill that is small enough to be easily carried along for the ride, yet is large enough to cook a meal for several people, the Cuisinart CGG-180T Petit Gourmet Portable Tabletop Gas Grill might be the perfect choice. While the Cuisinart CGG-180T may seem to be small in stature, it has enough grilling area to handle up to six chicken breasts or eight hamburgers with ease. The small design makes efficient use of every inch of cooking surface, without wasting heat or gas. The compact design makes it easy to carry in a car’s trunk or the bed of a pickup truck.

In the Box

Like many small, portable gas grills the Cuisinart CGG-180T comes out of the box literally fully assembled and ready to go. The folding leg system is fully integrated into the base of the grill and locks into place with ease. At first glance it is easy to see why a company such as Cuisinart would attach their name to this powerful little grill. Every inch of the grill appears to be made of top quality materials that have been carefully chosen to provide a grill intended to last for many years.  In the box buyers will find:

  • Fully assembled portable gas grill
  • Foldaway leg assembly
  • 1 x 5,500 BTU stainless steel burner
  • 1 x porcelain coated cooking grate
  • Propane canister adapter
  • Owner’s manual

Since the Cuisinart CGG-180T comes fully assembled, it can go from box to ready to use in a matter of minutes. It can be used as a tabletop model with the legs folded up into the base for picnics and tailgate parties or as a freestanding model with the legs full extended and locked in place. The lid can be latched firmly in place to allow the grill to be carried like a briefcase using the built in handle.

Performance

Many people tend to expect less out of a compact grill like the Cuisinart CGG-180T Petit Gourmet Portable Tabletop Gas Grill. However, in this particular case this would be a mistake since the CGG-180T has been designed to provide plenty of well dispersed heat over the entire 145 square inches of cooking surface area. The porcelain coated grates are spaced perfectly to provide great sear marks on steaks, burgers, and seafood. They heat up quickly and when combined with the compact design ensure foods are cooked quickly and perfectly every time.

There are several advantages to a smaller grill such as the Cuisinart CGG-180T, including the fact that although it is big enough to cook plenty of meat for 6 to 8 people, it uses relatively little propane. The grate and inside of the grill are easy to clean, which is great for camping trips or tailgate parties. The only problem seems to be that this grill does not get quite hot enough to sear meats and it may take a little longer to cook certain dishes. Among the many features are:

  • 1 x 5,500 BTU burner
  • 145 square inches of cooking surface
  • Collapsible, fully adjustable aluminum legs
  • Locking lid
  • 17 lbs. total weight

Final Thoughts

The Cuisinart CGG-180T Petit Gourmet Portable Tabletop Gas Grill has been designed to be compact and easy to carry. While it is not meant to be used for heavy duty grilling chores, it is ideal for general duty jobs such as burgers and chicken breasts. This makes it the perfect choice for tailgating, camping, or use out on the balcony if you live in a condo or apartment complex.

Customer reviews on this product have been very mixed, while the largest majority of customers has liked this grill, there have been consistent issues with the burners and regulator as well as incidences of the grill catching on fire. That said, many more customers love this grill for it’s ease of transport, and because it is easy to start up and clean. While many customers have enjoyed using this grill to make burgers and hot dogs it cannot be recommended because of the numerous issues it has had of a safety nature. Both Weber and Char-Broil make similar products for less money that do not have the number of defects this grill has had.
