The reviews for the J.A. Henckels International Everedge 13-Piece Knife Set are mixed and they are a bit disappointing. With over 200 reviews online this set received an average user rating of 3.7 stars. There are a good number of positive reviews and a lot of people do seem to like these knives but even a lot of the people that left positive reviews are saying things like “these are great knives for the money” or “good value for the price.” If these knives truly are great you shouldn’t have to qualify the statement by saying “for the money.”
One reviewer said that they purchased this set because they needed a replacement set of knives and this was definitely better than the ones they already had. They said that this set has everything they need and the knives are plenty sharp enough for daily use. This person said that although the knives are lighter and thinner than they expected, they still slice and dice just fine.
People that left positive reviews are saying that the knives are sharp and durable. A lot of the positive reviews come from people that actually liked the fact that these knives are lighter in weight. One review even came from a person that purchased these knives 12 years ago. They recently lost one of the steak knives so they bought another set of these very same knives.
Of course there were also a lot of negative reviews online as well. A lot of the negative reviews come from people that think the slim, lightweight blades are not a positive attribute like some of the positive reviewers said but rather a sign that they are flimsy and cheap. A number of people reported problems with the handles falling apart and a lot of people don’t like the fact that the micro-serrated blades cannot be sharpened. Serrated blades are fine for some purposes but there are situations where you need to slice through something rather than sawing through it.
A lot of the people that left negative reviews said that Henckels should be embarrassed for associating their name with this product. It’s probably true that Henckels should not have put their name on this set. One single Henckels knife usually costs more than this entire set. To be fair, it seems like a lot of the people that purchased this set were expecting a $600 set of knives even though this particular set can be purchased for less than $50. One of the people that left a 1 star review said that although these knives are trash by Henckels traditional standards they are still better than a huge majority of the knives currently being sold.
This is one of those situations where you get what you pay for. Even though this set has a good name stamped on the box they are still a cheap set of knives. They seem to work for some people so if you want an inexpensive set of serrated knives this set may work for you. However, if you are expecting the high standards normally associated with this company then the J.A. Henckels International Everedge 13-Piece Knife Set is not what you’re looking for.
