Green juices are becoming immensely popular because they are so packed with nutrients. Celery and cucumber juices are particularly popular, not just for their nutrients, but also because cucumber and celery both have mild flavors that complement fruit drinks nicely. Spinach makes a good combination with these two vegetables in a juice, not just because it is also mild, but it is also packed full of nutrients. If you want to use kale, you will want to include a stronger fruit such as berries to offset the strong taste of the kale.
Celery and cumbers are rich in vitamins A, C, and calcium. They are also very high in water content, which is why this drink is so refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. This drink is a great way to hydrate your body.
Ingredients:
- 2 stalks of celery
- 1 English cucumber
- 3 cups of spinach
- 1 red apple
- 1 half small lemon or lime
Directions
Wash all ingredients. There is no need to peel anything, it can all go through the juicer as it is.
Juice spinach first, on the lowest speed on your juicer. This ensures it goes into a clean machine, and also allows the high water content from the celery and cucumber to help rinse the spinach through the machine.
Add the celery, cucumber, and apple to the juicer on high speed.
Squeeze a bit of lemon or lime juice into your drink. This drink is exceptionally mild and sweet, the lemon will add a bit of tang.
Variations:
1) Substitute pear for apple when in season. Pears go well with the mild flavors of celery and cucumber, and are also very high in water content. Because pears have a mild but distinctive flavor, you may wish to eliminate the lemon in this case, or reduce the amount you use.
2) For a bigger nutritional punch, substitute kale for spinach. You may wish to increase the amount of apple you use, as kale tends to have a stronger taste than spinach does.
